Hooked on Advent Calendars!!!

So I finally had a chance to create my Advent Calendar.  I love it.  The boxes were easy to cut and assemble, especially when using the Cricut Craft Room so I could save some paper!  The CTMH Advent Calendar kit made it so easy.... but I actually want to make more now... with patterns and surprises representative of the person I am giving it to!  I am doing a workshop this Saturday and can't wait to see the finished projects of my friends!

Happy Thanksgiving!

November Blog Hop

Welcome to our November Blog Hop.  If you arrived here from Andrea's blog, you are on the right path.  I encourage you to follow along til you end up back here.  You will no doubt come across some wonderful projects and get some great ideas to try on your own.

We have decided to feature a layout and a card each month from the new Make It From Your Heart, How To Book.  If you have not had a chance to check this book out, you must do so right away!  It is filled with inspiration!  We will start with the first pattern for the layouts and cards and work our way through the book, so I hope you will stop back each month to see what we come up with!

This how to book is a new item in the Fall/Winter Idea Book, released in August.  The pattern above is #2.  I decided to incorporate the November Stamp Of The Month, Capture the Date (only $5 with a qualifying $50 order).  I have tried to include links to all the items used on this 2 page layout and on the card in the event you would like a closer view or if you are interested in getting your hands on some of these wonderful products.  I used the La Belle Vie Paper Pack because I love it and haven't had a chance to use it yet!  I was limited on time this month, so I was disappointed that I didn't get a chance to use the Cricut Artiste Collection or the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection.  In addition to the Capture the Date Stamp, I used the scroll from the Felicity Alphabet Stamp Set (retired) on both sides of the layout. I embellished the stamped image with sparkles.

This pattern was very easy to cut and assemble.  I did make the small boxes a little bigger than the pattern called for because I wanted more of the pattern paper to show and the photos I had we different sizes, so I wanted to balance the page more.  I used Bamboo cardstock, which is one of the accent colors listed in this paper packet as the base for the layout.

The placement of the pattern paper provided a nice spot to put the photos and I love how there was still a lot of room for the title and tons of room to embellish!!

At first I struggled with what to do with this "capture the date" stamp... but as soon as I sat down with the La Belle Vie paper and decided to use the photos of my daughter's Semi Formal in 9th Grade, it came to me right away... why not use the cute little numbers to list 10 things that describe her and her Best Friend's friendship!!  In addition to the 10 words describing their friendship, I thought I would use the month and year stamps so they will always remember when it was they went to their dance!  I used the Dimensional Elements Mixed Shapes, sponged it with Sweet Leaf (one of the accent colors in the La Belle Vie Paper), and then used Black inkBlack Baker's Twine and the Black Sparkles from the Black and Grey Assortment.  There is another heart on the left side of the layout that is also covered in the black pattern paper.

I love the Dimensional Elements Hearts.  I sponged one in Sweet Leaf, one in Blush and I covered one with the beautiful black pattern paper from the La Belle Vie packet.  I also used the pink Blush buttons (retired) and Black Hemp for the little tie.  I embellished the hearts with more sparkles from the Black and Grey Assortment, shown above.  I also can't get enough of the Houndstooth Irresistibles Alphabet, sponged in Sweet Leaf.  I have to say, I have used them on many projects and am only on my 2nd set.  They seem to last a while, with many duplicate letters.

Now on to the card.  This is the second card pattern in the book, which is actually Pattern #20.  There are 12 card patterns total in the book.  This card was so fun and very easy to make.  The cut sizes are provided and there is a sample card next to the pattern.  I fed off the sample and added my own twist!  This one was actually shown in portrait, but I changed it to landscape so I could fit more on it.

Again, I used the La Belle Vie Paper Packet.  I have an Anniversary coming up so this one was actually easy!  I didn't even have to think about this one!  I used the abbreviated month stamp and the medium numbers... makes it easy to figure out my Anniversary is on Nov. 17.  I used a white card from the White Cards and Envelopes Value Pack, 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 cards, which is the size the pattern calls for.

I used the Dimensional Elements Hearts again on this card, just like on the layout above.  I also used another  shape from the Dimensional Element from mixed shapes and covered it with the striped paper in the packet.  My little addition of the Black Tulle Ribbon made the heart stand out on the card a little.  I wrapped it all with a little Black Hemp and added a pin from the Bling Assortment

I hope you enjoyed my projects... I can't wait until next month!!!

I encourage you to hop on over to Jane's Blog to see what wonderful projects she came up with this month.  Since we will be doing a blog hop the first of every month, don't forget to sign up to follow my blog so you can come back and visit again soon or bookmark any of the blogs along the hop and check back each month for more great ideas!

Happy Halloween...

I just wanted to wish everyone a Happy Halloween... and share my fun Halloween Costume from this past weekend.  I was basically a modern Bride of Frankenstein.  I really loved this zipper and wanted to try it and since my other half was going as Frankenstein that captured the mad scientist, I decided to resemble Frank when I unzipped.  This was very fun and I got a lot of strange looks which cracked me up.

Here is a pic of me Frankenstein and his Bride!

Here is Frankenstein after he captured the Mad Scientist!

We had a lot of fun and even won 3rd place in a costume contest!  I thought since it was Halloween, I would share!  I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!

October Blog Hop - Make It From Your Heart

Welcome to our October Blog Hop.

The pattern above is #1.  I decided to incorporate the October Stamp Of The Month, Very Merry Christmas (only $5 with a qualifying $50 order).  I have tried to include links to all the items used on this 2 page layout and on the card in the event you would like a closer view or if you are interested in getting your hands on some of these wonderful products.  I used the Pear and Partridge Paper Pack because it matched the October Stamp of the Month and I just love this paper. The middle ornament and the "do not open until Dec 25th" tag were cut using the Cricut Artiste Cartridge.

I used the "artful turnabout" suggestion in the book for the left side of the layout.  Basically it suggested turning one or both of the pages in the layout for a neat alternative to the vertical columns shown in the cutting pattern.

I left the right side of the layout vertical as shown in the pattern.  I love how well the photos fit into this layout and left tons of room to embellish!!

Speaking of embellishments... I am in love with all of the coordinating products that are available for the holiday themed Pear and Partridge paper pattern.  I used the Red Festive Velvet Rub-Ons, the Pear and Partridge Complements Glittery Rub-Ons, and the Dimensional Elements, In Color Holiday embellishments.  I love the way everything coordinates perfectly.

Now a new fun tool I just picked up and had to try was the Fiskars Crimper.  I bought it for another project, but I was on a crimping rampage... the photo above includes a small strip of the striped pattern from the paper pack that was crimped and I love that it looks like some expensive coordinating ribbon, when it's really just a strip of paper.  I also used the crimper again (did I mention I'm addicted) on the small piece of Cranberry Cardstock in the photo below.  Love it!

Now on to the card.  This is the first card pattern in the book.  There are 12 card patterns total in the book.  This card was so fun and very easy to make.  The cut sizes are provided and there is a sample card next to the pattern.  I fed off the sample and added my own twist!

I cut a piece of the Zip Strip and made my card "Time For Sharing"... perfect for the holidays.  The Cranberry Cardstock under each letter in "TIME" was crimped.  It added a nice quick dimensional pattern to the paper.

Some other embellishments/additions that are featured on this layout and card are as follows:
I hope you enjoyed my projects... I can't wait until next month!!!

Clementine Workshop - RSVP to save your spot!!

Here are the layouts we will make at the Clementine Workshop on Thursday, October 4, 2012.  Please email me at killiandeb@gmail.com by Friday, September 28th if you would like to attend.  The cost is $15 for both 2 page layouts.  All paper precut.

This is a fun layout.  You will make one very similar, except I will cut the letters and flowers on the Cricut and you can make a title of your own.

The first page feature the wonderful Burlap Ribbon and banners to create a nice dimensional look.

This is the really cool part... you will learn how to use a flip flap to add two more hidden photos (see below to see how it looks when open).

The next 2 page layout is CUTE as a BUTTON!  I love this one.  I immediately fell in love with this stamp set and I just had to use it.

I apologize for the color difference.  I didn't realize until I downloaded that the sun hit the right side and made it appear lighter...

The other cool technique on this layout is that we will make the saddle cardstock look like leather (see below).

Love these buttons...

The Need To Accessorize...

Sizzix Texture Boutique Embossing Machine

I have to say, I have been waiting to buy one of these little accessories.  I love the look of the dry embossed texture on cards and scrapbook pages.  I decided on this one because it only embosses and I didn't need anything that cuts as I have the cricut, which I love.  I also love the look of this little machine, I mean it's a true papercrafters accessory since it's made to look like a classy little modern purse.  Who wouldn't want this!  Love it already!!!
Below are some of the textures I tried as soon as I unwrapped it... I bought a few folders (plastic envelopes that add the texture to the paper) and I have already made a list of more I would love.  Best case would be if CTMH decided to create folders with matching stamps... that would be the perfect world...

Sizzix  with sanding on embossed texture!
Sizzix  with sanding on embossed texture!
Sizzix with ink swiped on embossed texture on one side and sanding on the other!!!
Sizzix with sanding on left, light color ink in the middle and black in swiped on the right to show the different textures that can be made just by changing up what you do with the final embossed pattern.
I want to show the close up of this one because it came out so cool.  This is actually a very vintage look, as the folder is Tim Holtz.  I swiped Black Ink across the embossed pattern.  I love how this came out.

Now on to the CRIMPER...

This was the other tool I was waiting to get... I kept thinking I didn't need it, and since I had a 40% off coupon, I decided to get it and boy am I glad I did.  The photo below shows simply what it does, but I have already used it on cards and scrapbook layouts.  It makes a great tool for taking a small strip of paper and making it look like a textured piece of ribbon.  Stop back at the beginning of October to follow our Blog Hop and you will see just how cool this tool is.

Seriously the easiest thing ever... just feed the paper in and turn the crank and you have instant texture.  If you don't already have this tool, it's a must have!

I can't decide which is my favorite new accessory, I may have to go with the Sizzix, simply because it's adorable and the crimper just looks like a tool!  I welcome your comments about your own favorite tools/accessories...

September's Blog Hop

Welcome to the September Blog Hop (our first one actually).  If you arrived here from Carol's blog, you are on the right path.  I encourage you to follow along til you end up back here.  You will no doubt come across some wonderful projects and get some great ideas to try on your own.

For our first hop, we decided that we would go with Consultant's Pick/Favorite.  Since September marks the end of summer, and fall is one of my favorite seasons, I decided to feature the September Stamp Of The Month, Fall Favorites (only $5 with a qualifying $50 order).  I have tried to include links to all the items used on this 2 page layout in the event you would like a closer view or if you are interested in getting your hands on some of these wonderful products.

My inspiration came from the new Make it From Your Heart, Volume 1 How To Book.  I absolutely love this book.  It has great patterns for layouts and also cards.  I have used it at least 10 times and it was just released in the Fall/Winter Idea Book in August.  The pattern above is #6.

I used the Flirty Paper Pack and the Clementine Paper Pack because I just loved the fall themed colors in both.  I also used the zip strip from the Sonoma paper pack, which sadly has been retired.  The coordinating cardstock colors I used are: Olive, Goldrush, Autumn Terracotta and Creme Brulee.  The Exclusive Inks colors I used are: Goldrush, Autumn Terracotta & New England Ivy... all fabulous fall colors!

The left side of the page features 1 large photo, journaling and the title.  Since I love the new Burlap Ribbon and it matches well with the theme of this layout, I used it to help showcase the title.  The side border was actually cut on the Cricut using the Cricut Art Philosopy Cartridge.  I just cut an inch off each side of the decorative 7" square I cut and used one on each page.

The right side of the page features 5 more smaller photos.  You can also use one larger photo where the two are side by side (the pattern book shows both versions).  In order to bring the Burlap Ribbon to the right side to add balance to the layout, I decided to make a burlap flower.  I love how it turned out and it was the right size to fill that space on the page.  Another thing I did was stamp one of the stamps in repetitive fashion on the Creme Brulee paper (that the burlap flower is on) so it was patterned like the rest of the paper.

Some other embellishments/additions that are featured on this layout are as follows:

This was a really fun layout and it brought back some great memories of our fun day at Critz's Farm.  I can't wait to go to the Pumpkin Patch this year and make some more memories.

I encourage you to hop on over to Jane's Blog to see what wonderful project she came up with this month.  Since we will be doing a blog hop the first of every month, don't forget to sign up to follow my blog so you can come back and visit again soon or bookmark any of the blogs along the hop and check back each month for more great ideas!
